A fine and rare pocket watch made by Audemars Piguet for Swiss jewelry house Gübelin, circa 1922. The case is constructed of a combination of polished yellow gold and white gold and features a unique applied gold personalization on the reverse. Applied monograming like this is a lost art, having been replaced by more economical modern methods like laser engraving. Vertically brushed dial with applied yellow gold arabic numerals a dots. Discoloration to outer edge from one to two o’clock. Original gold cathedral hands. Subsidiary seconds. Signed “E. GUBELIN”, “LUCERNE”, “SWISS”.
Beautifully toned 19 jewel movement signed “E. GUBELIN”, “LUCERNE, SWISS”, “SEVEN 7 ADJUSTMENTS”, “NINETEEN 19 JEWELS”. The movement winds and runs but is not keeping time and will require service.
