A fine and extremely rare oversized gents Audemars Piguet wrist watch in yellow gold with tropical dial, circa 1955. Rarely do we see mid-century Audemars Piguet watches of this spec. In fact, this is the first like it we’ve come across. The polished “Disco” style case is crafted of solid 18kt yellow gold and measures a wearable 35mm excluding the crown. The case remains in very good condition displaying minor wear and no major defects. Snap on case back. The factory original light champagne Calatrava-style dial has developed a warm caramel colored patina that takes on a honey brown appearance in sunlight. The beauty of this dial is impossible to capture in photos but absolutely shines on the wrist. The quintessential baton-style hands in yellow gold as well as the subsidiary seconds hand are original to the watch an in excellent condition. Signed “AUDEMARS, PIGUET”, “GENÈVE”, “SWISS”.
Powering the watch is an Audemars Piguet caliber 2001 with 18 jewels, adjusted to 4 positions and temperatures. The movement is beautifully decorated and remains in excellent functional and cosmetic condition, winding, running well and keeping time.
