Designed by watch designer Gérald Genta of Royal Oak and Nautilus fame, Universal Genève’s Polerouter was launched in 1954 in order to promote Scandinavian Airlines Royal Viking polar flights that connected Los Angeles, New York and Europe via a new route across the north pole.
The present watch features an attractive glossy black gilt dial with non-date layout and cross-hairs. Cream colored radium lume pips. Time is indicated via the original silver dauphine hour and minute hands, and a central sweeping seconds hands. Applied “U” logo at 12 o’clock. Signed “UNIVERSAL”, “GENEVE”, “POLEROUTER”, “AUTOMATIC”, “MICROROTOR”. Stainless steel screw-back case measuring 35mm excluding the signed crown.
UG caliber 215 microrotor automatic with 28 jewels, in excellent functional condition and is winding, running well and keeping time.
Sold on a modern leather strap with generic steel buckle.
